paper industry.”

The Paper
Science & Engineering (PSE) Foundation at Miami University has a long
history of attracting students to careers of leadership in the pulp and paper
industry. Founded by area paper
companies in 1960, the Foundation helps meet the needs of the global paper
business by providing engineering graduates who speak the unique language of
the industry. The Foundation augments the academic curriculum delivered by the
Chemical and Paper Engineering (CPE) Department.
Perhaps the
biggest contribution the PSE Foundation makes is bringing together industry
support for students in the form of merit-based scholarship funding and access
to co-op jobs, summer internships and permanent jobs upon graduation. By the time CPE students are accepted to the
program, the Foundation is already working with them to develop a deeper
understanding of the career options that are available within the global paper
industry. From production to research to
sales and marketing, there are a wide variety of high paying jobs that demand
highly trained engineers. Every year
since the PSE Foundation’s inception, there have been more jobs available than there
are students to fill them, and every student has had multiple jobs from which
to choose, even in trying economic times.
